A Great Way To Celebrate With A ‘Summer Time Love’ Cocktail On July 19

National Daiquiri Day is Wednesday, July 19, and you can’t let it pass without having good cocktail.
Or better yet, a killer cocktail. And you can’t have a killer cocktail without a killer liquor and that’s why this one is so outstanding. It’s made with Ron Barcelo, a sensational rum from the Dominican Republic.
The drink, called Summer Time Love, “thinks outside the coconut” according to the company and after a couple of them, you’ll be feeling a bit coconuts. So it’s the perfect drink to celebrate this day and the daiquiri.
It involves Ron Barcelo Platinum, coconut cream, raw granulated sugar, pineapple chunks, coconut flakes and strawberry.
Ingredients
• 1.5 ounces Ron Barceló Platinum
• 1/2 ounce coconut cream
• Barspoon raw granulated sugar
• 1/2 cup pineapple chunks
• 1 large strawberry
• 1 large basil leaf
Recipe:
• Approx 1/2 cup ice fill to about 80 percent of the liquid
• Blend till smooth. Serve in pilsner or hurricane glass
• Garnish with coconut flakes and strawberry
A Brief History Of The Daiquiri
Like most drinks, the history of how it was created is not as clear as the Ron Barcelo rum in which this recipe is made. One thing seems certain – it was named after the small Cuban town of Daiquiri. It also seems it was created or at least popularized by Americans who were there during or after the Spanish-American War.
One story has it that Jennings Stockton Cox (now there’s a name for you!) who was there to mine for Cuban iron after the war, ran out of gin while hosting a party, grabbed some local rum and mixed it with lime juice and sugar.
Another story has Cox and others drinking it at a local bar when he decided to give it a name. A third theory has General William Schafter adding ice to an existing drink during the war and giving it a name from the local town.
Whatever the story (and of course the real origin could be something completely different) it involved drinking good rum and telling stories. That’s something you can do on National Daiquiri Day with the Summer Time Love.
