Irvine Meadows Parking Lot Tailgate Top A Year Of Fun Events
Of all the events, happenings, bars, travel and other activities that made up 2015, the unquestioned party highlight was the Jimmy Buffett concert at Irvine Meadows.
The fins were up, the feathers were out, the tiki bars were churning blenders and boat drinks (and spinning drink wheels for the girls) and the PubClub.com party bus was rolling to the party.
There is nothing else like a Jimmy Buffett concert, and this was the first time he played Irvine on a Saturday in about 10 years.
Not only was the party everything it had been in the past – with the exception of the Irvine PD not letting anyone into the venue until 4 o’clock – it was a temporary reminder of a permanent feeling. And that is the fact that Jimmy Buffett concerts are the World’s Greatest Single-Day Party Events.
The highlight of the highlight is hard to pinpoint: the long luge shot, showing a cute girl how to get free drinks at the tiki bar, being interviewed by the Art Mann Presents show, drinking rum among fellow Parrotheads or seeing Jimmy and the Coral Reefers.
Actually, the latter is just the fruit on the top of the boat drink for us Buffett Fruitcakes. He had already done half a dozen songs before most of us made it into the venue, the parking lot scene was so much fun.
Now of course, there was a lot more to 2015 than just Buffett. A few weeks later, I was on a party bus to another fun event, the USC-UCLA football game at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
I also enjoyed the San Diego Wine & Food Festival, the 12 Bars of Christmas pub crawl, Super Bowl Sunday and the 10K, Smackfest (one of the best ever this year), the endless house parties and in general just being able to experience all the people places and events of 2015.
And I look forward to even more fun events and activities in 2016!
