Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley Just Part Of Terminal 1 Bar & Restaurant’s Rock Stars
By Kevin Wilkerson, PubClub.com Blogger
I always love press events put on by Rock & Brews because I get to eat great food, drink very good beer and have rock music playing in the background.
Plus, I get to hang out with a couple of mega rock stars, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of KISS who are R&B partners (and show up without makeup and spiked shoes, I must point out) which kind of makes me feel a bit like a rock star.
Yet there was a bonus when PubClub.com attended the ribbon cutting for the Rock & Brews that opened up inside the remodeled Terminal 1 at Los Angeles International Airport that serves Southwest Airlines.
Rum Drinks & Bloody Marys
This Rock ‘n Brews event served cocktails. And good cocktails, including a rum drink that immediately stirs one’s travel adventure soul.
Now this is just what airport bars need – good rum drinks! Seriously, you can’t get one outside of the Caribbean outposts where, in the words of Jimmy Buffett, there’s often “No Plane On Sunday.”
But they have ’em here!
During my food and drink consumption, it occurred to me that Rock & Brews is the perfect bar and restaurant for Southwest Airlines flights.
People on Southwest are going to fun places to party – Vegas, the Bay Area, events like JazzFest in New Orleans – and they want a fun, lively place to have a few drinks, laugh and mingle with other fun travelers, plus possibly downing some solid food before boarding their flight.
Rock & Brews provides the prefect runway for that kind of activity – it’s set up to where you can easily create a party among your group and that will attract more fun people and, well, the next thing you know you are sprinting to the gate to catch your flight before they shut the doors.
In addition to the rum drink, there’s a full bar and a good Bloody Mary with a bacon strip on the side for your little “hair of the dog” before a flight. (Or on your way back from, say Vegas.) There’s also at least two dozen beers on draft, including many crafts.
The food is excellent; there’s thick Asian-spiced chicken wings, a delicious salmon burger and a burger that’s so juicy you better have a couple of napkins handy because the juice flows out of that first bite like a fast-moving river.
There’s also a Rock’& Brews in Terminal 5 and one opening in March at DFW.
At the end of the LAX press event, as I was sipping on a rum drink, Gene Simmons walked by me and said, “behave yourself now.” Coming from him, I felt that was an invitation to Rock And Roll All Nite at Rock & Brews.
