I was Irish for a day. And into the night.
The San Diego St. Patrick’s Day Weekend block party called ShamROCK is largely responsible. for it featured Irish bands, Irish step dancers and lots of beer.
As a VIP, I was drinking cold ones out of a huge Oktoberfest-style beer stein while rocking out along on Sixth Ave., in the Gaslamp Quarter.
I just love it when there’s Irish bands for a St. Paddy’s celebration. This would seem a “duh!,” but some bars and even festivals play the same music they do every night or at every event. Not ShamROCK, tho; it featured a half-dozen Irish bands on two stages. By the end of the night, tho. it was the band Paging The 90s that was rocking the crowd as well as PubClub.com, the most. And that turned a fun event into an absolute blast.
I particularly enjoy drinking beers outside on a blocked-off street, which is what ShamROCK is, in fact. Particularly with bands playing, enabling us to go stage-hopping from one band to another. The setting was energetic but also laid back at the same time. ShamROCK is a very manageable G Street to E Street length so there’s no neeed to hurry to get from one place to another. You can take your time, talk with others and pause for fun side activities such as the unicorn races (people on inflatable unicorns which is quite amusing to say the least).
What was also cool were the variety of bands. Now while I’m a stickler for Irish music for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, having tribute and cover bands provided a perfect change of pace and, let’s face it, that’s what really brought out the party time in people.
PubClub.com went live a couple times from ShamROCK to provide a look at what was happening well, live, during the event.
Overall ShamROCK was a fun and lively way to party on St. Patrick’s Day Weekend. The event was on Saturday and with St. Paddy’s Day falling on a Sunday in 2024, that left a second day of St. Patrick’s Day celebrating.
The big question, of course, is would I do it again? My answer is an absoulte YES!
