Jimmy Buffett Parrotheads Flock To The Big Easy For This TropRock Paradise

A few months ago, Eric Babin of Radio TropRock asked me if I was going to New Orleans for the annual Jimmy Buffett migration of Parrotheads known as Pardi Gras. It’s a multi-day event of Buffett-style musicians playing at bars all around the French Quarter, a pub crawl and even a parade down Bourbon Street.
Put on by TropRocker Jerry Diaz, it is always in mid-January (Jan. 17-20 in 2019 and is a great warmup for the Mardi Gras parades to come in New Orleans and a “Fins Up” time to enjoy before the annual Buffett concert tour starts around the country.
So when Eric asked me back in, oh, about October or November, I said “well, I sure would like to go; I’ve never been to it.”
And that was it – the holidays came, there were fun events to cover here in Southern California and I never followed up with Eric.
In fact, I forgot about it until I was typing away here posting stories on PubClub.com while listening to RadioTropRock.com (which you can listen to right here on this website!) when I heard Eric live in a bar at Pardi Gras.
“Crap!!!,” I yelled out to myself (as well as anyone within earshot of me). “It’s NOW!!!”
As if sensing this from afar – and no doubt to rub salt into my Pardi Gras wound – Eric then told the group the details of that evening’s pub crawl.
“DANG!”
Man, instead of sitting in this LA rain, I could be in New Orleans going bar to bar with a bunch of fellow Parrotheads (okay, it’s raining there, too) singing and dancing my way through a great time in the Big Easy.
Heck, Buffett himself is there too, for he is singing the National Anthem at Sunday’s NFC Championship game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Saints.
“DAMN!!!”
Of well. The good news is that I – and yourself – now have a whole year to plan to be there for 2020. Here’s the PardiGras website.
Cheers – and Fins Up!
