Take A Cab, Public Transportation Or Have A Designated Driver

I am, for the moment, standing on the soap box, going to Speaker’s Corner, standing up and shouting in Hyde Park.
It’s the time of the year for me to stand up and take a stand, to put out the plea, to pull the plug on the party to get your attention.
With all the holiday parties, holiday events, holiday gatherings of co-workers and friends, do us all a favor, please. And that is, don’t drink and drive.
If you’ve tipped back a few and feel slightly wobbly, then don’t turn the keys. Turn ’em over to someone else. Here’s the Bar Blogger’s Top Tips:
• Call a cab. It might be expensive, but it’s far cheaper than a DUI and far better for avoiding accidents.
• Look into public transportation. That’s not easy in some places, but even in Los Angeles it exists. I always check to see if I can get someplace by bus, and then if I have to take a cab home, that’s fine. It’s cheaper than taking a cab both directions.
• There are also car services now in some areas run not by companies but individuals looking to pick up a few extra dollars by driving their cars. We used one from Hollywood to Manhattan Beach after the Halloween block party. Found the guy on Craig’s List. Cost us $20 each. A cab would have been at least $30 each.
• Find a friend and pay them to be your designated driver.
Hopefully most – well all – of you are mature and smart enough to know better than to drink and drive and know your limits. Know that if you are driving, then to cut off the alcohol and switch to water at the right time of the night.
Following these tips will help make it very Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday season for everyone.
