Exploring Maryland: 7 Reasons to Fall in Love With Chevy Chase

August 14, 2025 by kevinwilkerson Leave a Comment

Searching for a home near the ever-popular area of Washington, D.C., but without the hassle of city life? It might be time to connect with one of the knowledgeable luxury real estate agents in Chevy Chase, MD. This coveted D.C. neighborhood gives you all the benefits of a suburb with the atmosphere of a quaint rural town.

What’s the buzz about Chevy Chase, and is it the community you’re searching for? Let’s explore 7 reasons everyone falls in love with this little patch of heaven in Maryland.

1. Chevy Chase is an Upscale Community

First, let’s start with the elephant in the room: Living near the nation’s capital is not cheap, and Chevy Chase is a desirable location. Many real estate surveys rank it as one of the top places to live in Maryland, as it’s on the border of Washington, D.C., and convenient to Bethesda, making it ideal for those who commute to work or want to visit the national monuments.

The homes in this community are known for their lush lawns and impressive architecture. You’ll find single professionals, young families, and empty nesters here, and everyone takes pride in living in Chevy Chase. It may be a wealthy and upscale neighborhood, but the people who live there are down-to-earth and welcoming.

2. The Amenities Will Win You Over

If the proximity to the big cities isn’t close enough for your fitness desires or food cravings, Chevy Chase has you covered. From private clubs like the Chevy Chase Club to dining and shopping, there’s a little of everything within a few minutes of your home. What’s available depends on the subset of the neighborhood you choose, whether it’s Chevy Chase Village, Chevy Chase View, or Kenwood. They’re all known for their trees, parks, and walkability, so you can’t go wrong wherever you go!

3. You’ll Be a Part of History

You might have connected this neighborhood with the well-known actor of our time, but Chevy Chase, MD, was here long before the beloved comedian. The land is named after a land grant given in 1725 (Cheivy Chace), but the neighborhood was settled over 110 years ago. Until 1886, the land was used for farming. In the late 19th century, homes were built, turning the beautiful property into a neighborhood that became a town in 1907. While you’re exploring, you’ll see evidence of this evolution, including a silent movie theater and roads built for streetcars.

4. It’s a Friendly Community

Concerned that you won’t know anyone and it will be hard for you and your family to make friends? Chevy Chase’s reputation is friendly, with welcoming neighbors, a small-town atmosphere, and an open heart! Stay as private as you’d like, but when you’re ready to reach out and get to know those around you, most of the residents have been in your shoes and are happy to show you the ropes.

5. The Schools are Highly Rated

Chevy Chase is part of the District of Columbia Public Schools District. The schools here include Murch and Lafayette Elementary, Alice Deal Junior High, and Woodrow Wilson High. There are also a few private schools if you prefer that route, but no matter which educational path your children are on, the options are highly rated.

6. You Don’t Need a Car

Living in walkable Chevy Chase makes it easy to save money and reduce greenhouse gases because you won’t need a car. Shopping and dining at nearby venues can be achieved by biking or walking, and if you need to head to the big cities, bus and Metro options are available.

7. Shopping is a Favorite Pastime

Although it’s not Rodeo Drive, Chevy Chase is known for its impressive shops along Connecticut Avenue. Many residents will hit up the avenue for their groceries on their way home, spend weekends at the many entertainment options along the three-block radius, and relax at the piano lounges and cocktail bars. Most of the businesses are locally owned, but if you’re looking to shop at a larger retailer, Friendship Heights is only a few miles away!
