5 Important Things To Do During This #StayAtHome Time
As someone who has worked at home for several years I have several tips to keep working and concentrating when you’re not in the office.
And I am sharing them with you here.
1.) Don’t Be Sloppy
It’s easy to sit around in your pajamas all day to work at home. . After all, unless you’re on a video call, nobody can see you. However, this is the wrong approach to take; dress as if you’re going to the office (or at least in a professional manner), guys be sure and shave and ladies put on your makeup. This is because if your attitude is sloppy then your work will be sloppy. Good sports coaches peach “you play the way you practice.” It’s the same with working at home.
2.) Stick To Your Normal Work Routine – Shower, Dress, Etc.
If you normally get up at, say 7 a.m., then get up at 7 a.m. Do your shower-coffee or whatever routine. If you start sleeping in and getting out of your normal work routine your work will suffer and it will be that much harder to get back into that routine when you return to the office.
3.) Stay Away From Repeated Trips To The Refrigerator
This takes a lot of self-discipline because it’s right there! But you must concentrate on what’s in front of you. That’s why I keep everything I need within arm’s reach – documents, notepad, pens, etc. That way I’m not constantly getting up and seeking out that fridge.
4.) Take Breaks
It’s easy once you “get on a roll” to stay glued to your work for hours. But just like when you’re in the office, you need to step away from it on occasion. So get up and walk around the room, grab some coffee (or, in my case, more iced tea), take a lunch break and so forth. Just don’t sit on your couch and turn on the TV, for it will be difficult to get off the couch and get back to work.
5.) End Your Day As Normal
When you work day is finished, be done with it. Don’t keep going back throughout the night to add that “one last detail.” Save it for the morning. You need to be able to walk away from work at home just as you do at the office.
Conclusion
Basically, treat your home office like your real office. You will be efficient and will add value to your company because you will have demonstrated your ability to remotely do your job.
