I’m now part of the “in” fashion crowd at the beach.
You know the types. Slick-looking guys, tall with a flat stomach showcasing the fact they have yet to drink enough beer in life, always with a girlfriend and of course, a dog. They wear those cool beachwear shoes, the kind where you slip your feet into with no backs, a hybrid between a flip flop and a shoe.
They sport them on the sand and in the bars and their life looks just perfect.
Well I have those stylish sandals now. They are the You Got My Brew ST sandals from Sanuk which is part of a new lineup of summertime fashion footwear in collaboration with Stone Brewing. I’ve never had a pair of this style of beach footwear before and have always been kind of jealous of those who do have them. For one thing, I never quite understood how they stay on your feet when you’re walking because there is no heel and nothing in between the toes. They do, by the way, I can happily report.
You see, I’ve always been a flip flop guy myself. Stepped on a pop top kind of thing. The problem with flip flops, as any beach bum knows, is that they either wear out too fast or they are too stiff or thin to really be comfortable. I can’t tell you how many wasted hours I have spent in beach stores trying on flip flops attempting to find something comfortable. You would think it would be just the opposite, that there would be so many choices that choosing one would be the time-consuming part of it.
But the Sanuk x Stone Brewing collection has that covered, no need to worry. The Ziggy ST X Stone is a cushy, durable flip flop. The minute I slipped it on I raised my arms high in the air and said “finally, THAT is what I’ve been talking about all these years!”
I am fully confident that they can withstand the rigors of walking up and down Waikiki Beach and Kalakaua Avenue, as well as several Sunday afternoons at Duke’s. They can take the pounding of Paradise Beach in Mykonos, Greece, and wild moped rides in Santorini. They can take the daily walks – and stumbles – on Duval Street in Key West. And they will certainly serve me well here on the beaches of San Diego.
So now my beachwear dilemma is which one to wear when I head to the sandy shores. It’s really all a mood thing, right? When I want to be a hip, cool and stylish beach guy, it’s the you Got My Brew ST. When I’m in my totally kicked-back beach bum frame of mind I’ll go for the Ziggy ST X Stone flip flop. Then I will head into Stone Brewery, which was founded right here in San Diego, and have a few cold ones.
