They said they would “keep the music going” and indeed they are after their leader has finished taking his trips around the sun.
The Coral Reefer band is playing what will be one of its first concerts as a group since Jimmy Buffett’s death. It will be performing at the 2024 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. The show will be on the final day of the event, Sunday, May 5. It will be, as least of this writing in mid-January, the first show the band has done together since Buffett’s passing on Labor Day Weekend.
It will be “a celebration of Jimmy and his love for all things Jazz Fest,” the band posted on its Facebook page. “As he was known to say – Laissez les bon temps rouler! We hope to see you there.”
That is the same weekend the Rolling Stones are scheduled to appear. Yes, the Rolling Stones. Also on the calendar the second weekend are the Foo Fighters, Neil Young Crazy Horse, George Thorogood and a few bands familiar to New Orleans and Jazz Fest veterans, among them Trombone Shorty and The Radiators.
You’ll pay a price to see this, tho. Tickets for the second weekend are $270 ($240 for early bird). And that’s for three-day General Admission. Currently, there are no single-day tickets available. Toss in hotel rooms at $250+, plus the obvious food and libations and you’re looking at about $2,000 for the weekend.
That’s a lot of margaritas and boat drinks.
