If the name is not any indication that things are a bit different with singer Jesika Von Rabbit, then the song titles surely will provide a clue. They include “Bombay Beach Bunny,” “Dog At A Human Party” (with dancers wearing masks of dogs), “Looking For A Weirdo” and “Gotta Keep My Buzz Going.”
And thus we have what I can only describe as an out-of-this-world experience with the music of Jesika Von Rabbit. Listening to it temporarily transmitted me to another time, the 25th century, to be precise, because it was the kind of space-alien music played in the old Buck Rodgers movie and TV show. By that I mean hard to pinpoint, but quite pleasurable.
Cast your conventional music thoughts aside, for a Jesika Von Rabbit show is a wild, entertaining ride. Dressed in a skin-tight and body-revealing leotard that would get Olivia Dunne’s attention, Jesika stands behind a keyboard creating her unique sounds while go-go dancers wearing bunny ears, alien masks and other attire to accompany her songs, dancing their way into your okay-this-is-way-cool consciousness.
I can’t quite describe her music and neither can Jesika, for that matter. When I asked if she could, she chuckled and said, very matter-of-factly, “no.”
Then she added, “It’s a smoothy of everything I’ve ever liked in my life, like a big Jesika smoothie. I like this, I like that (this was accompanied by lots of hand signals as if combining ingredients into a blender). It’s like that,” and that, folks, explains it.
Regarding the name, “people always have called me Jesika Rabbit and von, well, that’s German history and, well, it just popped up, I live in the desert (Joshua Tree, CA, outside of Palm Springs) and there’s a bunch of rabbits and it just happened naturally.”
An interview with her is as entertaining as her shows.

Von Rabbit and her one-man band – tall cowboy Lee Joseph on guitar – and the dancers perform on the West Coast, primarily in California. She has toured with the Eagles of Death Metal and shared stages with acts as diverse as Wanda Jackson, Cat Power, and The Crystal Method.
Her original compositions have been licensed to Fox’s The Masked Singer for a commercial spot, CSI, NBC’s Life, FX’s Better Things, The Real World, Sons of Anarchy, Crash, Hit & Miss, Crazy Stupid Love and War Inc., Grace and Frankie, a commercial spot for Fruit of the Loom which aired during the 2012 Summer Olympics, and Morgan Freeman’s film 57 Seconds among others.
So check her schedule because there’s nothing like seeing Jesika von Rabbit in person. It’s truly an out-of-this-world musical experience.
