80s Bands To Rock In 13 Cities for ‘Whip It to Shreds’ Tour This September
The 80s are back!
In the summer of rock ‘n roll revival band tours, now comes this one of punk’s early days.
Blondie and Devo are combining for a 13-city tour in September that takes them across the country, with stops in California, Florida, Illinois (Chicago) Texas and Washington. It’s called the “Whip It To Shreds” tour and it starts on Sept. 7, in Woodinville, WA, and ends Sept. 26 in Chicago. In between, it hits places such as Los Angeles (also stopping by the Taste of Newport in Newport Beach),
“We can’t wait to get out on the road with Devo,” 80s diva Deborah Harry, who now goes by Debbie Harry, said. “It’s going to be an incredible show and we’re excited to share it with our fans.
Said Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh: “We are looking forward to performing alongside Blondie and swapping costumes backstage.”
Debbie Harry, Clem Burke and Chris Stein, along with newer Blondie band members Leigh Foxx, Tommy Kessler and Matt Katz-Bohen, will be playing ongs from their most recent album “Panic of Girls”, plus all the songs we all know so well (among them, one would assume,”Heat of Glass,” “One Way or Another,” “Dreaming, “Rapture,” “Call Me,” and a personal favorite – then again, I went to the University of Alabama – “The Tide is High”).
Devo, who released their first studio album in two decades with 2010’s highly praised Something for Everybody and have been touring since, will mix up their set with their newer material and the classics. Original members Mark and Bob Mothersbaugh and Gerald and Bob Casale will be joined by tour drummer Jeff Friedl.
Tickets go on sale Friday, June 15.
Blondie’s 9th studio album, “Panic of Girls,” was released in 2011 and the band. It is inspired from New York City’s roiling melting pot and street pop culture, featuring new wave dance gems, songs sung in French and Spanish and a reggae cover are threaded together with a timeless pop sheen. Blondie was inducted into the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2006 and has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide.
More than three decades after the release of their visionary debut, “Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo,” and a full 20 years since their last studio album, Devo released their 9th studio effort “Something for Everybody” in 2010. The lauded album was built on Devo’s signature funky, mechanized swing, hearkening back to the revolutionary sound, style, and de-evolutionary philosophy that made them one of the most trailblazing bands of the New Wave era.
