San Diego Live Music Venue Hosts Trop Rock Singer And His Parrotheads

Normally, Jimmy Buffett plays large arenas with 20,000 people. Only occasionally does he go back to his roots and play clubs.
But he’s doing it in San Diego, at the Belly Up Tavern in North County’s Solano Beach.
Buffett is playing on Friday, Oct. 17, and tickets go on sale Friday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m. Prices are $95 or $175 for reserved loft seating.
The Belly Up is primarily a live music venue that’s open only for special shows. I’ve seen the Canadian band The Tragically Hip there, spending much of my time at the bar while my Canadian friend was making a fool of himself by the stage. You can actually see the stage from the bar, for the Belly Up is not a huge space.
It’s fairly intimate.

The Belly Up is located in downtown Solona Beach, a small community just north of Del Mar. The show is a great way to make a weekend of it in North County. The horse racing is finished at the Del Mar track, but there’s many other attractions and good bars. There’s also hotels within walking distance of the Belly Up – I prefer the Holiday Inn – and several more about a $10 cab ride away from it.
And here’s a good thing: No Ticketmaster! You can only get tickets through the Belly Up.
