The King Of Somewhere Hot (And TropRock) Puts On A Mini-Concert In An Annapolis Lighthouse

The Son of a Son of a Sailor is making his way down the East Coast filming videos and getting local attention along the way.
Jimmy Buffett is sailing and singing is way from Long Island to the Bahamas for a new video series. He’s stopping here and there to make individual videos, tho it’s hardly like the old days when it was just him and his sailboat stopping in a harbor to find a Cheeseburger in Paradise.
Now, he’s got not only a boat, but at least one chase boat and drones. And he’s causing quite a stir when he pauses to film.
He made local news headlines in the Baltimore area when he shot a video in Chesapeake Bay and at the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse, an iconic Annapolis landmark.
According to the Capitol Gazette, Buffett used the Naval Academy and Annapolis harbor as backdrops for video shoots, “swirling speculation on social media the island idol was in the port town. His not-so-subtle 42-foot seafoam catamaran powerboat indiscreetly named Last Mango, after his 14th studio album ‘Last Mango in Paris,’ was discovered at the Annapolis Yacht Club.”
Buffett even did a little concert of sorts in the lighthouse.
The Gazette reported that Preservation Foreman John Potvin, and David Gendell, who wrote a new book called “Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse: A Chesapeake Bay Icon,” were asked to join the video team at the lighthouse, trading historical facts for front row seats to Buffett’s performance.
So early one morning – “these days, I wake up at about the time I used to go to bed,” Buffett has often joked – Buffett played one song up in the gallery and another in the lighthouse’s parlor. The song selection is under wraps until the video debuts.
“It was incredible,” Potvin told the Gazette. “He’s sung songs all over the seas for many years. That’s what it’s all about.”
In another video shoot, his other vessel Drifter was surrounded by smaller sailboats steered by midshipmen while drones flew overhead.
Look for more Buffett sightings – hey I heard he was in town! – as he makes his way to the Bahamas.
