‘Escape To Margaritaville’ Play Also To Hit The Stage

Jimmy Buffett announced during an interview on his Radio Margaritaville that he will be playing Wrigley Field as part of his 2017 concert tour. He did not specify a date but it’s likely to be in the summertime. He has previously played Wrigley, as well as Boston’s Fenway Park, in a pair of shows that visited classic American ballparks.
“I’m a big Chicago Cubs fan and we WILL be playing Wrigley Field this year,” he said. “I made the promise in the stands (at the end of the first show). I said if the Cubs win the World Series we would come back, and I’m fulfilling my promise.”
Buffett also revealed he will be taking the tour to Australia in 2017. “That will be fun, too,” he added.
And he gave a tease about possible shows in Hawaii. He’ll be on vacation there and said, “we may do one or two shows down there.”
He’s also been working on a musical the past five years, “Escape to Margaritaville” which will hit the stage at the LaJolla Playhouse in May (the dates are May 9-June 25 tho Buffett obviously wont’ be there or all the shows. Maybe the opening!?)
“I’m very excited,” Buffett said about the musical. “We’re happy with the stories, it’s based on songs people know. Duh! It’s escape to Margaritaville so we stay close to the well.”
The 2017 tour won’t start to be released until around March when he likely starts his traditional “Florida swing” in April. The tour dates and venues are usually released in pieces, rather than all at once, so we may not know until May when exactly Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band will be headed back to Wrigleyville.
He certainly won’t be going back to Irivne Meadows in Los Angeles because that facility started being torn down for condos shortly after the last motorhome left the parking lot last October.
Buffett did not reveal a “when and where” the Margaritaville play will be playing, but stay tuned to PubClub.com as well as Radio Margaritaville for details on that, plus his 2017 tour dates.
Until then, enjoy his new Christmas album and wish him a Happy Birthday on Dec. 24.
