A Jimmy Buffett Parrothead Celebration In The Conch Republic
One of these days, I’m going to go to the Meeting Of The Minds in Key West.
After a few days, the Meeting Of The Mindless might be more appropriate, plowed under by boat drinks and margaritas in a non-stop drinking frenzy in a Florida paradise.
Meeting Of The Minds – or MTOM as veterans refer to it – is a celebration of the Jimmy Buffett lifestyle and music (the 2014 event is Oct. 29-Nov. 2, and yes, that’s right during Halloween!). And it’s on my future party Bucket List.
I need to get there to experience it, post an event review on PubClub.com and post a couple of blogs on it here.
MTOM involves Parrotheads and Parrrothead clubs across the USA and it takes place in the perfect location, the place where Buffett broke out from bar singer to star, Key West.
Buffett himself doesn’t perform, but members of his Coral Reefer Band do, Peter Mayer (Friday, 9:45-11:15 p.m.), Mac McAnally (Saturday, 8-9 p.m.) and Club Trini (Saturday 9:30-11:30 p.m.).
There are also more than a dozen Buffett-esque bands playing cover tunes and original Trop/Rock music throughout the five days, including my good friend Eric Stone (Thursday, noon-2 p.m.). And these are just the official event performances; there are more happening all over Key West. The complete lineup is here on the MTOM website.
The Casa Marina Hotel is the centerpiece of activity, which is an awesome location with a beach and lagoon (I’ve seen New Orleans Jazzfest regulars The Radiators there, with toes in the sand and ankles in the water).
As a Parrothead myself, this is right up my alley. Especially in one of my favorite party places, Key West!
