Music Of Legendary Soul Man A Rock ‘n Roll Experience

It’s going to be a soul-filled night at Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach as the long-time band of legendary soul man Bobby Womack takes the stage for a special tribute show on Saturday, Nov. 13.
For the first time since the death of Womack, his band is getting together to play a tribute show. Hosted by Womack guitarist Nate LaPointe and Womack’s daughter, GinaRe Womack, the intimate tribute show will be a walk down the musical memory lane that was Bobby Womack’s career.
Bobby Womack had a 50+ year career in gospel and soul music as a singer, songwriter and guitarist.
His music has been recorded by Rolling Stones “All Over Now” (their first #1 hit), Wilson Pickett “I’m A Midnight Mover”, George Benson “Breezin'” and Janis Joplin “Trust Me.”
He has collaborated with Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Dusty Springfield, Sly and the Family Stone, Ron Wood, Keith Richards, Rod Steward, Stevie Wonder and most recently, Damon Albarn & The Gorillaz.
As a singer he is most notable for the hits “Lookin’ For a Love”, “That’s The Way I Feel About Cha”, “Woman’s Gotta Have It”, “Harry Hippie”, “Across 110th Street” and his 1980s hit “If You Think You’re Lonely Now.” His song “Across 110th Street” was featured in Quentin Tarantino’s film, “Jackie Brown.”
Womack was inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.
Nate LaPointe said, “Bobby (Womack) and I had a great relationship. He’d look at me during a song and give me a nod or a wink and that was my signal to push it a little bit further. Over the years, I feel as if he and I grew more than a working relationship; we became good friends.
“Before he passed he gave me his blessing to keep playing his music and this tribute show is our (the band) way to pay respect to the man who we shared so many musical moments with all over the world.”
South Bay beach rock band, BARLEY LEGAL, will open the night with a 45-minute acoustic set.
Members of the Bobby Womack Band will include Alltrinna Grayson (vocals), Hense Powell (keyboard), Bubba Bryant (drums), Chazzy Green (saxophone), Nate LaPointe (guitar), Brian Mantz (trumpet) and Erm Navarro (trombone).
Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door and can be purchased via Saint Rocke’s website.
