Running and Sex: Exploring the Surprising Similarities

Exercise, Being Passionate and Realizing Even Bad Sex (and Runs) Are Good Are A Few of the Similarities

There are a lot of similarities between having sex and running. PubClub.com enjoys both, so we thought it would be good to look at what these two activities have in common. Here are our top seven reasons running is like sex.

1.) Exercise. Both are very good physical workouts and each can be very vigorous exercise when really, ahem, pushing hard.

2.) The Pace of Running Is Similar To That Of Sex (There’s Even a Sprint to the Finish Line). Most runners start out fairly slowly, gathering momentum, then get into a steady pace. They maintain this for most of the run until the end when they suddenly pick up speed. As with sex, they are sprinting to the finish line.

3.) Even Bad Runs Are Good. Not every run, or every sex session, is stellar. Some just fall, well, flat. It may seem uninspiring during the act but some time afterward, you realize that, just as in sex, even that bad run was really pretty good.

4.) Great Runs Are Really Great. After an especially spirited run, there is a natural high that takes over the body. You are excited, happy, smiling, have an extra bounce in your step and can’t wait to go out and share your happiness with others, be it friends or strangers. It’s the same after having great sex.

5.) People Can Be Passionate About Each Activity. Many regular runners develop a “runner’s mentality” in that the more they run, they more they want to run. The minute they finish a run, they start thinking about the next one. Just like sex, they can’t wait to do it again. Some people become so passionate about running that they have several pairs of running shoes, subscribe to the running magazines, have friends who are equally passionate about running and talk nearly all the time about running, be it among those or other friends or co-workers. People can become as obsessed about running as others do about sex.

6.) Like Sex, There Are Marathon Sessions For Runners. Actually, there are actual marathons for runners. That running term is applied to sex in order to describe especially long sessions.

7.) Running Can Take Place Just About Anywhere. On walkways, running paths, the mountains, the beach, there are several places where people can get in a run. Sex, of course, can be conducted just about anywhere, as well.

There is, however, no Mile High Club for runners.
