Rainy nights don’t have to be a drag when you’re traveling. If you want to bring on the action, you’ll have to learn some fun games to play when going out isn’t an option. The 3 on this list are guaranteed to turn any boring night in into a raucous good time. In fact, they’re so wild they might just have you wishing for the rain more often.
Act & React Will Leave Everyone Laughing
We all know how important it is to have a good icebreaker when meeting new people. Act and React is one of the best around. It’s a hilarious game which gives you the chance to indulge your childhood fantasies of being an actor as you pass the night away. While you probably won’t win any Oscars for your performance here, you’ll certainly win some new friends. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Pens, paper, and a container
- A timer (you can use your smartphone)
- A group of 4 or more people
Have each player write down a potential scenario on a piece of paper, like going on a bad date or being attacked by a lion at the zoo. Place each slip of paper into the container and give it a good shake to mix everything up a bit, then start the timer as the first player reaches into the container and takes a slip of paper.
The player acts out the scenario on the paper using pantomimes and sounds, but without explicitly stating what it is. You could also ban talking altogether, forcing your troupe of actors to rely even more heavily on their mime skills. The actions are usually exaggerated to a humorous degree, ensuring everyone is rolling on the floor laughing by the time a guess is made correctly.

The audience can call out guesses whenever they like, and when a guess is made correctly, that player’s turn is over and the timer is stopped. The player writes down their time, and the next player takes his or her turn. When all the players have taken their turn, the round is over. Players will consult their times and the player with the shortest time wins the round, and an award for ‘best actor’.
This game is especially great if you’re traveling by yourself, because it gives you the chance to meet people in a fun and relaxed setting. It can get as wild as you make it, or be tame enough to play in the hotel lobby.
Strip Poker Is the Icebreaker Friends Need
Strip poker might not be the first thing you think of when considering hotel party games, but it should definitely be in your repertoire. After all, you don’t want to miss your chance if you happen to meet the right people. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Cards and chips for playing
- A private room with a table
- An openminded group of 2-6 people
Strip poker is one of the most famous games around, and for good reason—it’s always a rollicking good time. If you’re down to try this exciting variation on the classic game, it’s a good idea to learn how to play strip poker before you begin. The basics are much the same as regular poker, but with a few key differences which are important to get right.

Unlike regular poker, you don’t want to play in the hotel lobby. For the most uninhibited results, head to your room or the room of another participant. That way, you’ll be free to get into the game as much as you please, without any onlookers spoiling the fun.
It’s a good idea to choose a poker variant with fewer betting rounds and which involves lots of drawing, because these are generally easier and make games go by quickly. You don’t want people sitting idly at the table waiting too long for the next round, or they’ll get bored.
As you start your game, ensure each player has on a few items of clothing. What you choose to accept as clothing (shoes, jewelry, glasses) depends on the atmosphere you want to create. Choose a piece of clothing as an ante, and deal the hand. The hand will be played normally, except the loser must give up his or her ante, removing that article of clothing upon the loss.
Strip Poker can be a real bonding experience and a great way to cement new friendships together. You can have rules in place to protect shier players’ modesty, or you can make it as crazy as you want. You can also add fun variants, like losers having to take a shot after their round or winners getting to make up extra rules as they go along. These can help sweep away shame and inhibitions like an extremely efficient push broom, so it’s a good idea to employ them liberally.
Peeler Pong Gets Wilder as the Night Goes On
Peeler Pong gets the crowd going like no other. This is a fun variation of the popular game Beer Pong, an iconic game with a storied history and huge following. Peeler Pong is even more fun, and can be played with or without alcohol. If you want to make it truly spectacular, here’s what you’ll need:
- Table in a private setting
- Marker, ping pong balls & plastic cups
- Enthusiastic group of 2-4 people
You can fill the cups of halfway with water or, for the more adventurous, your choice of beer. The game works exactly like beer pong, except it involves the loser peeling off layers of clothing. You’ll need 12 cups to begin with, and you may want to have extras around for each round of Peeler Pong.

Before the game begins, take stock of what everyone is wearing. You’ll write down different articles of clothing on each cup (socks, shirt, pants, etc.), then fill the cups up halfway with your liquid of choice. Then, you’ll arrange the cups just like in Beer Pong. 6 on each side of the table, arranged in the shape of a triangle with 3 on the bottom, two in the middle, and one at the top closest to your opponent’s cups. You can also use more cups, if you want to prolong the rounds.
Once the game is set up, you can divide yourselves into two teams. The teams stand on opposite sides of the table, throwing ping pong balls and hoping to land them into the other teams’ cups. If the team lands a ball inside the cup, the other team must remove the article of clothing which is written on that cup and drink the liquid inside.
After that, the cup is removed from the table. As the number of cups decreases, and they sit further apart from each other, it becomes harder to make your shot. Because of this, each team is allowed to call for a “rerack” of the cups, meaning that the players on the opposite side must push them together. This is a boon for the players trying to make the shot, but it has a catch—the opposing team may rearrange the cups in their own style. As long as they touch, anything goes in this game.

Once all the cups are gone from one side, the game is over. The team on that side loses, and the rules call for them to set the game up again for another round. To add a bit of intrigue, you could have them do it without putting on their clothes again—but that’s your call.
Ready for your big night in? Buy the materials beforehand so you aren’t stuck sitting around at the last minute. Remember to play responsibly, and have fun doing it. These 3 party games will leave everyone in stitches, so don’t be bothered by the rain. You may even wind up having an even better time at your hotel than you could ever have out on the town.
