A Tutorial On The Basic Elements Of This Popular Game
If there’s one thing you should know before traveling to Las Vegas, Atlantic City or any other gambling destination, it’s how to play blackjack.
That’s because it’s the most popular game in any casino and it’s likely your friends are going to be to playing and of course you want to be partying with them so you had better know what you’re doing before you sit down at a table.
• Basic ’21’ Rules
It’s not a difficult game to comprehend, of course. You sit down at a table with a few other people, buy some chips, look at the cards the dealer gives you, and use those and other ones he deals you to get as close to the number 21 as possible.
But if you don’t know what you’re doing, your money can disappear as fast as free drinks are disappearing in Vegas. So it’s important to know these important elements of the game.
• ‘Stand’ Or ‘Hit Me’
This is what you say to the dealer if you want to keep the cards you have or you want another one. Actually, at a casino, you wave your hand over the cards to say “no card, thank you,” or take the bottom of the cards and scratch them against the table’s surface – like a cat scratching a pad – to get another card. The general rule to stand is when your cards total 14.
• The Split
At the start of a game, if you’re dealt two identical cards you can “split” them into different hands. This has the same value of one hand but it can increase your chances of winning that round. So if you’re bold, go for this on occasion.
• Doubling Down On A Hand
You can double down after you get your first two cards. Do this if you’re confident in winning the hand; you can double the bet but can only get to take one more card.
• Blackjack Odds
There’s a lot more to this game and if you really want to know the game, then read this helpful lackjack tutorial which has, among other cool things, a chart of blackjack odds.
And about those free drinks; well, you can still get them while playing blackjack in Vegas, as well as other table games. If you’re at the bar playing video poker, tho, you’ve got to put enough money in the machine to prompt a green light, which signals the bartender that you’re good to go, so to speak, to give you a cocktail or beer.
