Have you ever had a bad wine experience?

As in, you were waiting to crack open one of your bottles, but when you did, something seemed off to you?

How could this be, you ask?

The taste didn’t seem fresh, and the flavor wasn’t full. A nice bottle of wine was ruined, and the experience of tasting a new variety was lost.

Naturally, one of the easiest issues with wine ishow you store it.

Certainly, you’ll want to keep your wine far away from any Manitowoc ice machine. With these helpful tips, you’ll know what to do with a bottle of wine you don’t plan to drink right away.

The Best Ways to Keep Wine Fresher, Longer

There are plenty of conditionsto think about when storing your wine. If you’re wondering about the most common issues people face when pondering proper wine storage, read on.

Temperature Is One of the Most Vital Conditions

Heat and cold are enemy number one for any bottle of wine.

If your storage area leads to high temperatures, the wine can cook itself, which will lead to flat flavors and aromas.

On the flip side, keeping any bottles cold, such as in the refrigerator, can result in the cork drying out. This can allow air into the bottle, leading to damaged wine. You wouldn’t want to leave your wine next to the ice maker machine either.

The recommended temperature range is somewhere between 45 and 65 degrees Fahrenheit. If your storage area is warmer than this, it’s not a huge dilemma. Just make sure to consume it within a few years after being made.

Light Is the Enemy Of Wine

Another big problem when considering where and how to store your wine is how the light affects the room.

The sun produces UV rays that can rapidly degrade wine, leading to premature aging of the liquid. So, the best practice is to store the wine in a room free of sunlight.

Along with this, keeping the houselights off will also help.

In your wine storage room, incandescent bulbs can be a better option than the standard fluorescent bulbs, as they emit no UV light.

Storing Wine On Its Side is Ideal

It may seem redundant to mention, but there is a reason wine is often set onto its side. With the liquid pushed against the cork, the cork has a better chance of not drying out.

Remember, if the cork dries out then storing the wine can collect air, leading to less-flavorful drinking.

A good option for those that collect many wines to drink later is a wine cooler. They allow you to store many bottles at a fixed temperature, often with UV protection on the glass door. You can even find options that provide multiple temperature zones for whites and reds together.

Wine Storage Should Be Taken Seriously

It’s no secret that fresh, properly stored wine tastes better than dried-out, flat wine.

With the proper storage, the flavors mature over time. Having the right area to keep your bottles will keep the experience of having wine to drink whenever you’d like. This ultimately makes storing wine a breeze.

All this being said, knowing the most important factors in how to store your wine is the first step in enjoying the grape-based drink.
