Turning Your Lemons Into, Well, Champagne!

PubClubette Ashley checked her Google maps, turned to me and said: “we’re headed the wrong way. Again!”
Instead of becoming frustrated or yelling at each other, we laughed.
We know.
Traveling can sometimes be as much about misadventures as it is about adventures. We embrace it. No need to get bent out of shape about it.
In fact, sometimes it can even work in your favor. You could be doggedly determined to go somewhere but find something even better by simply adjusting your attitude and going with the flow.
That happened to Ashley and myself as we were headed to a bar I knew of in San Francisco only to stumble into an awesome place that previously was not on our radar.
One of Ashley’s favorite phrases is “when life gives you lemons … drink champagne!” It’s a sound philosophy but what she is really saying is adjust your plans to the changing situations of travel. There are always going to be speed bumps and those who thrive are the ones who adjust without letting the little things bother them.
We went to Catalina Island in Southern California to get a buffalo burger yet when the grill was broken we had tri-tip.
We tried to have the signature drink of San Francisco, the Cable Car Cocktail, yet wound up with rum drinks at a tiki bar. And had a much better time at the latter than we would have had at the former.
When travel gives you lemons – or you wind up having a series of misadventures as Ashely and I did in San Fransisco one weekend – remember to laugh it off because you never now what unexpected fun my await you around the next corner.
