Just because we are on lockdown and can’t travel anyplace does not mean we cannot dream about traveling to places.

With that in mind we present the PubClub.com Virtual Destination of the Week: the city of New Orleans.

NOLA is called the Big Easy because there’s always a big party happening and they are easy to find. Well maybe that’s not the actual reason but once you get there you will quickly realize it’s the real reason.

All you have to do is walk down Bourbon Street at about 6 o’clock on any given night and see all the signs for BIG ASS Beers, 3-4-1 Happy Hours and shot girls roaming around the bars ready to fill up you up with a multitude of multi-colored drinks out of a tube.

And that’s just the warmup to the night, when it’s easy to get lost in a dizzying array of drinks served in keep-em cups, ranging from the Hurricane to the notorious (notorious the next morning, anyway) Hand Grenade.

There’s so much more, too, from the rich food at places ranging from the traditional and expensive (Antonie’s, Brennan’s and Commander’s Palace, just to name three) to the traditional and inexpensive (Johnny’s Po Boys, Napolian’s and Central Grocery and Deli with its famous muffuletta sandwich).

Yet it is indeed the nightlife, where NOLA shines the brightest. It has no bright neon lights but rather a let-it-go attitude that says “here’s the party!”

New Orleans is a poor man’s Vegas. You don’t have to get dressed up to go out to a club and wait in huge lines, pay $15 for a single cocktail or spend $1,500 on a table and bottle service just to get into a bar.

Instead, you down your drinks, often to rocking bands pounding out familiar covers at places like Fat Catz, Famous Door, Razzoo and Tropical Isle and the dozens of other lively Bourbon Street bars.

Or go a couple miles away at the locals’ hangouts on Frenchman Street.

Yes, there’s culture in Nawlens. You can follow the Zydeco music into the many beads shops to get properly outfitted, savor the different varieties of gumbo and even go on swamp and ghost tours.

But New Orleans is really all about the nightlife and the party.

Cheers!
