Nearly Swept Away By El Arco de Cabo San Lucas

I was having so much fun at the Cabo San Lucas arch, that I nearly really found out at that it’s truly Land’s End.
The signature spot of this top travel destination at the southern tip of Baja California in Mexico is a natural rock arch with a little strip of sand where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean.
A limestone arch carved by wind, waves and time, It is officially known as El Arco de Cabo San Lucas, “El Arco” to locals or just as “the Arch.”
Boats take tourists out to it from the mainland and leave you as long for as you want to explore it, although I never overstayed my welcome late one afternoon. The driver alerted me to watch out for the incoming tide and when it started to occur, I did not signal him to come get me. It did not seem to be much of an issue, so I stayed out there, all alone, soaking in this glorious moment.
Suddenly, tho, the ocean decided it was time to merge with the sea and the tide began to come in quickly; so quickly it caught me off guard. I scampered to the other side, signaled to the shore but nobody saw me.
I didn’t have a call phone or anything else with me and I could not see my boat. Which, in another few minutes, just might be my rescue boat. The waves were starting to lap at my feet and I attempted to get anyone’s attention in the bay.
I won’t say I was getting worried – after all, I was within maybe a mile and in sight of the land and the boat docks – but I was definitely thinking about available options. Including swimming.
And then, out of seemingly nowhere, my boat and captain arrived. He had a big smile on his face.
“I told you to watch out for that incoming tide,” he said above the putter of the small engine.
He then took me to shore where I very eagerly walked up the sand and sat down at The Office. That’s not a work place, by the way, but a bar on the beach.
It was definitely time for Margaritaville for me at that point.
Cheers!
