Travel Blogger Daily Blog: Get Me Back On A Sailboat In The Virgin Islands

BVIs, Beach Bars, Rum & Tropical Music Are Always Calling Me

We raised the sails in Tortola
And dropped a hook in Jost Van Dyke
Killed our pain at the Soggy Dollar, Foxy’s and the Paradise…

– Eric Stone, “Sunsail”

I was going through some photos of previous PubClub trips when I ran across pictures of me on a sailboat in the British Virgin Islands.

The photos showcased the bright blue skies of the Caribbean and the beautiful sea. Several also showed me drinking rum. You can’t go to the Caribbean without drinking rum, it must be said. The rum is cheaper than the mix, so you had better be prepared for it.

Fortunately, I am always well prepared for rum. And on this particular trip, I was with two rum-loving buddies, TropRock singer Eric Stone who has the “Tour Tales” articles on PubClub, and Luau Larry.

And here, on a rainy February Saturday, I decided that is where I would like to be right now.

In fact, Eric is on a sailboat right now in the BVIs as I type this blog post and has just announced a pair of summertime sailings in the Caribbean, on which he will be preforming nightly. So I’m extra jealous and thinking of being on a boat.

The BVIs are great. You get on a chartered catamaran (you can hire a skipper but it’s best to be with someone who knows how to sail) and go all around to the various islands and the beach bars: Foxy’s, the Soggy Dollar Bar, One Love, Myett’s in Cane Garden Bay.

Heck, one legendary bar is not even on land. It’s the famous William Thornton – Willie T’s – which is an old pirate-looking ship in a bay

Eric knows all of these places, as he’s played all of them.

If you’re wondering if it’s a good to visit the BVIs after all the destruction from Hurricane Irma, the answer is heck yeah! Most places are rebuilt, re-open and have their arms open to welcome visitors.

And they have plenty of rum to serve you, too.

Cheers!

Yep – been to most of those and certainly a great place to visit. The Sir William Thorton is also a restaurant where they encourage ladies to bare all for free t-shirts after they jump in the water off the bow of the boat. It’s in a cove on Norman Island where a famous dive spots allow you to feed fish right out of your hands. Plenty of Jimmy Buffet music playing in the background so you can more fully enjoy Willie T-s world famous cheeseburger’s in paradise. As long as you’re in the area you also have to check out Virgin Gorda and their world famous beaches with huge rock caver you walk though and crawl around to get to an awesome beach. Oh yes Kevbo we need to go. Best – the monster – Eli
