In The Island State Of Mind Thanks To Radio TropRock

In contemplating what to write for today’s travel blog, I decided on this topic because I was listening to Radio TropRock, which you can listen to on-line or right now by hitting the player button on PubClub.com.
The station was playing a song by Eric Stone about life on a boat and an island and even tho it’s January, I suddenly started thinking about the tropics. I briefly was lost in visions of beaches, the ocean, palm trees, hammocks and of course rum drinks served in tiki glasses.
And while I just wrote about skiing in Mammoth for the previous day’s blog, I realized that it doesn’t matter what time of the year it it, because it’s always a great time to travel to a beach.
So today’s topic is the on the tropics!
I love the tropics and the tropical lifestyle. I like the laid-back lifestyle of being in a place where you have the space of a beach in which to lay out on, with water to play in and bars on the sand with thatched roofs.
I like being dressed in flip flops, a t-shirt and wearing swim trunks that are constantly getting wet from me jumping in the water, then drying out in the sunshine and warmth of a place.
One of my favorite places for this is Waikiki Beach. I know what some people say, that it’s too touristy and blah, blah, blah, but I love it. First, of all, it has action and activity, which is part of my enjoyment of being at a beach. It also has a slow-paced “I’ll get to it later” effect on me.
I guess that’s because I’ve been there with Luau Larry, who once sold suntan lotion at the Waikiki Hilton. When I first walked the beach with him, at a very slow pace with him stopping to slap the hands of fellow beach employee friends and eventually plopping down at the Royal Hawaiian bar for its powerful Mai Tais, that I developed a special passion for the place.
See, are you not ready to do this yourself, no matter the time of the year!? If you can’t go right now and want to dream about it, then tune into Radio TropRock. That will put you in the island state of mind.
Cheers!
