Get Ready, America, For Black Friday, Cyber Monday And The Same Car Ads

The last time I turned around, it was the middle of the summer and I was basking on the beach and attending fun events like Smackfest.
Then suddenly it was the fall college football was on TV, and now we’re almost to Rivalry Week, and as I look out the door the sun is setting at 5 o’clock.
I know it’s just a matter of moments when I’ll be inundated by ads about sales – the worst of all being the same car commercials, over and over and over again – and events like “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday.” Actually, it’s already started; just as I was writing this post I received an e-mail about Black Friday. Ugggg.
Hey, the holidays are here (ALREADY!) in America!
What happened?
Seriously. I mean I know things go fast when you’re having fun but I’ve not that THAT much fun the past few months.
The holidays are great, don’t get me wrong. But there’s things about them I don’t enjoy. Namely the early sunsets and the colder weather. And especially all the TV ads. I don’t know why it is that my favorite season, summer, seems to blow by quicker and quicker every year.
Heck, in July sportscasters start talking about college football as if they want to just toss out that month and August to get to the season. Hey, I want to enjoy those months!
But that’s Americans these days. You can see it in everything. As soon as a president gets elected, then the political news people are talking about him running for the next term. That’s four years away!
Americans always seem to be in a hurry to get to the next thing. They don’t seem to be able to live in the moment. Europeans are not that way. This time of the year, they look forward to their Christmas markets but aren’t tripping all over themselves to get to them the first of November.
They will be there in due time, they know, and they will enjoy them at the right time.
But here in America, I have to take a deep breath, pause and mentally prepare for the season because, well, it’s the holidays. ALREADY!
Holiday cheers!
