Don’t Be Like The Garfield Cat; Here’s How To Thrive On The First Day Of The Week

We’ve all seen those Garfield cartoons, with the famous cat in various states of agony with the tagline “I Hate Mondays.”
It’s easy to relate to because generally, Mondays are not easy to like. They come right after a weekend, are the first day of a new work week and you’ve got to last until Friday evening before you can, well, have another weekend.
Mondays are the inevitable grind of life.
Except when you travel!
That’s because every day you are traveling can be like a weekend.
You get up when you want, you do what you want, you don’t have a boss or a client telling you to get a report or project done “ASAP” and of course you can stay out all night and not worry about doing the “turn and burn” to get in the shower and get dressed to drag yourself to work.
This is all for leisure travel, naturally. If you are traveling for work you can often get more lax about certain things – I’ve sent countless e-mails and made thousands of phone calls in a ragged t-shirt and loose shorts from hotel room chair, or even while still in bed – but you are still there to work.
Assuming you are on holiday, you may not even know it’s a Monday. A beach resort or a place like the Greek Islands transcends time, and that includes days of the week. While you and the rest of everyone is drinking shots and dancing on the bar at Paradise Beach or the Skandinavian Bar on Mykonos, the last think you’re thinking about is, “say is today Monday?”
Things are a different in cities and towns. The streets are quiet during the day – except when they become as busy as beehives during lunch time – and the restaurants and bars are not nearly as crowded as they are on weekends.
But rather than mope and say “well, it’s only a Monday,” I look for places that are trying to draw in customers on this off day. Restaurants and bars may have specials, sometimes great deals, and can be full of fun locals. You might can run into off-duty bartenders and waitresses; these are called SIN, or Service Industry Nights and Monday is arguably the best night to go out in Las Vegas as a result.
So when you’re traveling, there’s no reason to be like Garfield and hate Mondays. With the right attitude, you can even look forward to Mondays.
Cheers!
