Bad Luck In Cabo, Good Luck In Santorini

I knew the Travel Gods were not with me on this trip before I even boarded the plane.
A group of about 30 of us were going from Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas for Memorial Day Weekend to party. Someone in the group’s mother was a travel agent, and even tho she said she knew nothing about Cabo, people insisted on using her services.
Her first mistake was booking us on Alaska Airlines instead of Aero California, The latter give you free beers on the flight; on Alaska you pay for drinks. When going to places like Cabo it’s not just the free beers, it’s that the fun mood that puts you in and sets the tone for the trip.
Additionally, I was seated not with the group at the back of the plane but next to a single mother with a screaming baby. I was pinned against the window and when we landed, the single mom waited until the plane was empty before she got out of her seat. By the time I caught up with everyone, they had just broken up from being lined up together; I had missed the group photo.
There was a mixup at the hotel and I had to spend the first night on the floor. I somehow got stuck with the tab at the first bar. Things kept piling on like ingredients on a large pizza.
Clearly the Travel Gods did not want me to enjoy this trip.
But they made up for it a month later. They must have felt as if they too harshly punished me because when I was in the Greek Islands, everything went my way. I even met what almost became my bride on Santorini. I had an incredible romance on an incredibly romantic island.
The Travel Gods gave me a huge break when the girl and I overslept and nearly missed our ferry to Mykonos. We literally jumped on board just as it was departing the dock. In Cabo, I would have missed it by seconds. Here, I made it by seconds.
I’m not sure what dictates the Travel Gods mood, but they are always with you, whether you realize it or not. I don’t believe you have any control over them and what they do; all I know is that sometimes, they can make or break a trip.
Cheers!
