Bead Shops, Zydeco Music, Restaurants, Bars And Drinks To Go

In order to get my “New Orleans fix,” one of the things I must do when I’m in the Big Easy is to walk around the French Quarter.
I just love it.
The French Quarter is one adrenaline rush after another. There’s the distinctive architecture, New Orleans-style restaurants all around you and all kinds of places to walk past and into in every direction.Which way do you turn?
There’s stores and while I don’t travel to go shopping, I do really enjoy going into the t-shirt shops to check the funny sayings on the shirts and to look at the beads, especially those that are playing Zydeco music.

Plus, those beads shops, as I call them are great places to duck into to get out of the heat. In fact, walking down streets the Quarter and passing places, you can feel that nice cool air conditioning covering your body, teasing you to go inside and buy a shirt or some, beads, have a cup of gumbo, or a drink.
Ahh yes, the drinks. You can get drinks in the Quarter. You can get drinks to go in the Quarter. Grab a beer – “2 for $4” one place on Decatur Street advertises – cocktails, slushy drinks and anything else you care to consume. You can walk into a bar or restaurant sit down for a few sips and get the rest in a to-go cup.

New Orleans is one of the few cities in America where you can drink in the streets – Las Vegas and Savannah, Ga, are two others – and doing that always puts a smile on my face when I’m walking around the Quarter.
I usually don’t include Bourbon Street in my daily walks through the French Quarter. I save that for later and if you want drinks that’s the place to get them, for it has”Big Ass Beers”sold along the street and 2-4-1 and 3-4-1 specials every day and night of the week in the bars. Plus there are signature drinks, most notably the Hurricane at Pat O’Brien’s and the Hand Grenade at the Tropical Isle.
I don’t eat sweets and thus don’t sit down for the beignets at Cafe du Mond, but I like walking by the place because it’s such a part of New Orleans.
It’s places like this and unique diversions such as beads shops and drinks to go that provide a true flavor of New Orleans
Cheers!
