‘I Went Over To The Court And Joined The Party…’
Seeing a great sunset is a wonderful thing, but doing something while seeing it is even better.
That is why, as a beautiful Friday was ending, I crossed The Strand in Hermosa Beach, Cali, and joined in a group that was playing beach volleyball.
This was a normally group of serious players who had seriously loosened up by this time. They had four players on each side and people were popping in out out to take, ahem, “refreshment” breaks. Heck, it was kind of like a mini version of the Manhattan Beach 6-man, minus the costumes.
So I went over to the court and joined the party. There were about a dozen people and while I only knew one of them, they let me in as if we were long-time friends. Normally, beach volleyball groups are very clickish; they don’t easily let in outsiders.
But not this group.
I soon found out one of the reasons why – a rep for a new vodka had brought out some of her product for people to sample. Provincial is 7X distilled vodka (from Canada, by the way) and I can tell you it’s very smooth.
There’s nothing like a little booze to loosen up a crowd, and add in a spectacular sunset on a beach and, well, what more do you need to kickstart a weekend, right!?
As a bonus, when the Provincial representative found out I run PubClub.com, a blog that involves content for things like, well, drinking vodka, she gave me the remainder of the bottle. For research purposes, of course.
Those sunset beach volleyball players, who are frequently on that same court, are welcome to come have a shot of it anytime they desire. Especially the petite girl in the petit bikini who caught my eye as much as did the sunset.
