Airports And Catching Flights Can Be A Nerve-Racking Experience

As an experienced and, if I do say so myself savvy, traveler, there’s little I fear when I head out the door on my way to a trip.
I’ve packed well (and light), I did my “pocket tap” to make sure I have all my essentials (walled, i.d., cell phone, cell phone charger cable, computer, computer power cord) and am always excited to begin my adventure.
I do have one fear, tho, and it involves airplanes.
No, I’m not afraid to fly. Quite the opposite. I’m as calm as a guy in a hammock when I’m on a plane.
My fear is actually getting to the plane.
I’m not exactly one who likes to arrive at the airport two hours ahead of a flight. I’ve always been more of a last-minute guy. I liked to time it to where I would walk up to the gate just as they were about to shut the door.
But you can’t do that now, and with the wildly unpredictable and inconsistencies of airport security, you never know if getting from the front of the airport to the gate is going to take 15 minutes or an hour and a half.
So my one travel fear is missing a flight.
It used to be if you missed a flight the airline would simply put you on the next one. But not now – there’s all kind of restrictions, it can be very costly (several hundred dollars in some cases) and inconvenient to say the least.
I even have this fear when changing flights. Airports now are huge and gates are separated by stores. In fact, airports have suddenly turned into shopping malls with planes. I’ll never understand why anyone would shop in an airport to begin with so the whole idea of having all those stores is lost on me. And when you’re trying to rush to a gate, you have to go through these long areas of shops before the plane waves goodbye to you.
I just experienced this recently in the Las Vegas airport and barely made it panting and sweating to the plane.
So yes, my biggest fear when traveling is missing a flight. And for good reason.
Cheers!
