Free change fairs from the airlines – United just announced if you book before March 31 you can change any flight for free the next 12 months – and hotels offering discounted rates, now is a great time to travel.

The coronavirus may be scaring off some travelers (as well as countries, cities, states and even events with cancellations) but for others this is a prime time to travel. For cheap.

Add to this the fact that with fewer airline passengers traveling to destinations and events, hotels are hurting when you arrive in a city. Especially in places where events have been canceled such as Austin (South By Southwest ) and Anaheim, CA (lost two major conventions). Hotels in New York are offering 25% discounts on rates.

Tour operators are slashing prices and pretty much anywhere you go now is cheaper than it was before coronavirus became an international concern.

Should you be scared to travel? Not if you’re healthy and take precautions, such as washing your hands after using railings and areas where people touch with their hands. Do you need to wear a mask? Personally, I would avoid the large cruise ships at least thru March as there are 3,000-4,000 people in a very confined space for a long amount of time (one to two weeks), but otherwise, take advantage of what is now a prime time to travel.
