Writer’s FAM Trip Trumps Alabama-Georgia Game

Blame it on the singing cowboy.
Yes, a singing cowboy.
And let’s face it, how often does one get to spend time with a singing cowboy?
That, and a few other factors, have led me to miss watching my alma mater, #1 Alabama, play in the SEC Championship game with a potential berth (certainly ranking) in the College Football Playoff on the line the first Saturday in December.
Instead of intensely watching the TV, crimson and white shaker in hand, pacing the living room floor and exploding with a ROLL TIDE with each Bama touchdown and big defensive play, I’ll be on a travel blogger’s press FAM trip.
To Lancaster.
Lancaser, CA.
Now if you think I suddenly need my head examined – after all, to most people here in Los Angeles, Lancaster is a quick In-And-Out burger and bathroom stop on the way to the Mammoth Mountain ski resort – I know better.
I’ve been to Lancaster twice and have been impressed with it both times. In fact, its annual craft beer festival called Field Of Drafts (it’s held in a beautiful minor league baseball stadium) blew me away, and it has one of the most fun wine bars, Pour d’ Vino, I’ve ever been to, plus craft breweries and some very good place to eat.
It has a singing road and, apparently, a singing cowboy. The latter is one of the activities we will be doing on this trip, which also involves some fellow Southern California travel bloggers.
Press FAM trips are great, by the way. You show up to the designated hotel (which is comped, of course), meet the group in the lobby – in my first trip to Lancaster, I was picked up in a stretch limo – take a tour of some kind, go to a restaurant where you eat and drink on the host’s tab, then sometimes go out to drink some more.
The next day, you do it all over again.
And sometimes, you even get to spend time with a singing cowboy.
Cheers!
