Staying In Shape While Sightseeing In Worldwide Destinations

Traveling often plays havoc with your normal workout schedule but I have a simple solution: I go for runs.
I know some people like to workout and do a StairMaster in a hotel’s “gym” but those rooms vary widely; I’ve seen massive ones with several machines and weights and other ones the size of a closet with a single machine. In other words, I can’t depend on them.
Plus, I want to be outside. I can’t stand running in place staring at a wall when I could be in the outdoors, running past historic landmarks, along a beach or in a bustling area full of people and activity.
Running allows me to see a destination at a faster pace than walking and slower than while on public transportation or in an Uber. I help identify a destination’s personality by seeing it up close while going for a run.
Some places are, of course, better than others for running. One of my a favorites is Vancouver with its Stanley Park. This is a great running trail that goes literally right along the water.
Parks, by the way, are great places for runs. Most of them have running paths and you’ll see other runners using it, too.
Here’s something else you can do while on the road related to running: check and see if there are any 10Ks or fun runs taking place while you’re in a destination. Not only are these events great for a little morning exercise they provide great ways to meet and mingle with locals.
Most of them have some sort of post-event finish line party – often involving beer!
That is what I call “exercise and socialize” and it satisfies two of my primary travel criteria: staying fit and mingling with people in a fun and lively environment.
There’s a lot of benefits to running while traveling and it’s one of my favorite activities while on the road. And although you’re running to have fun while staying fit, you should always take precautionary measures to avoid injuries. Taking travel-sized massage balls for muscle pains will be helpful for workouts and the actual travel.
Cheers!
