Living In The Moment At This Fun Southern California Beach Party

A DJ was blasting music on the sand.
People were running around not just in beach attire but in all sorts of crazy costumes in an organized frenzy.
Volleyballs were being pounded almost as frequently as the beers.
And now it’s my head that’s pounding a bit.
It’s the day after Smackfest, a different kind of beach party in Hermosa Beach, CA. It’s a co-ed costume beach volleyball tournament that relies more on socializing than strategizing and surviving it takes a bit of bit of planning and most of all restraint of not to go too hard to fast.

After all, it’s easy to get caught up in the scene. You’re at the beach, music is pumping, there’s hot girls all around (and, for you ladies, washboard-waist guys) with some beach volleyball being played, but mostly this is a singles mecca in a singles paradise.
Like everybody, I spent quite a bit of time running in and out of the bars – Sharkeez in particular – to get a lot of that liquid courage that makes these events so much more fun.
Later, at the after party’s after party, while singing and dancing to Joe’s Band at the Standing Room, I wasn’t exactly thinking about how I would be feeling the next morning. I was doing what one should be doing at fun events like Smackfest – living in the moment.
After all, if we didn’t live in the moment, then what’s the point of going to fun events and even traveling to destinations around the globe?
So what if I’m feeling a bit groggy on this Sunday. It’s the price of having a great time on Satuday. I’ll snap out of it soon enough to enjoy the day. And enjoy it I did, to its fullest.
Cheers!
