From the NFL to college football, LIV golf and even Olivia Dunne, there’s a lot to cover in sports. Here’s a different take on the news and events of the sports world.
Today’s NFL
There are so many bad teams in the NFL that some games is almost like watching a train wreck – you can’t turn away from it. Tua-less Miami and the New York Jets ended the season in an 11-6 game. It wasn’t an old-fashioned defensive showcase but rather a display of offensive ineptitude.
The Panthers and Saints played 60 minutes yet could only combine to score 17 points, the Rams and Seahawks 35. There were as many punt yards as offensive yards. The NFL should put in a rule that limits teams to five punts a per team per game for some teams.
College Football

In college football, TCU played for the National Championship. TCU!? Warning to those who have been clamoring for a 12-team playoff: blowouts will be commonplace. Not 65-7, mind you, but a lot of “this game’s over by halftime” ones.
Do teams play defense anymore? The scores of the two semifinal games were 51-45 and 42-41. In another bowl game USC lost 46-45 to Tulane. USC should not lose to Tulane by any score.
And with all the transfers if the coaches can’t even keep track of their rosters, how can fans? Some organization – where are you NCAA? – should eliminate transfer options for players until their second year. It should also make sure that NIL money is not indirectly coming from the schools.
Olivia Dunne

I have no problem with an attractive gymnast making $2 million a year from the NIL because she is pretty and smart enough to use the tools (Instagram, TikTok) that are available to everyone. I do, however, dislike panting teenage boys showing up to her school’s events making a mockery of the sport and the other gymnasts.
We’re Talking Baseball (Salaries)

I can’t get a grip on these MLB salaries. No, it’s not my money but with contracts running upwards of $40 million, well, can anyone relate to that kind of money?
Even the players themselves?
Still, I do hope the hometown Padres make another playoff run this season. It was fun to watch the long-starved sports fans in this town really get into the team and especially how they reacted when they beat the Dodgers in the playoffs.
LIV Golf
You know we’re in a weird sports world when normally calm golf is in turmoil. LIV golf is luring – stealing? – several of the game’s top players away from the PGA Tour with absurd purses and signing bonuses. Don’t they make enough money already? The golfers also seem unaware or simply don’t care they the would not be millionaire professionals in the first place were it not for the PGA Tour giving them their start.
Many LIV golfers have been invited to the Masters, which could be in interesting, especially in the privacy of the clubhouse.
