The Prognosticator is in Tuscaloosa this week to address a rumor that Alabama lost to Vanderbilt. That situation starts the Kalen Countdown but folks in Knoxville and Auburn can’t get too smug considering their own situations.
Plus, there’s mysery in Missouri and Michigan, sorrow in Southern Cal and caution with the Canes in Miami where back-to-back reviews have overturned what would have been two straight losses. And that, folks, is what they play the games.
Now onto this week’s games. All times Pacific because the Prognosticator lives on the West Coast.
South Carolina at Alabama (9 a.m., ABC)
As if losing to Vanderbilt is not enough of a blow to Bama. play8ing a game at 11 o’clock in the morning is a punch to the tailgating gut. This is the new coach’s biggest challenge as the Pachyderms will get the best the Beamers have to offer. That’s always the case with Bama but how much the not-always rocking Cocks can muster remains to be seen. Winner: Alabama
Texas vs. Oklahoma (12:30 p.m., ABC)
The Red River Rivalry looks to be a walk through for the Steers, as the offensively-challenged Booms have little boom when they have the ball. But the Sarks better have their horns sharpened or they will be sent back to Austin with thier cowboy hats hanging low. Winner: Texas
Penn State at USC (12: 30 p.m., CBS)
These are troubled times in Troy and with the unbeaten Franklin Felines coming to La La Land, this would seem to be a time for the Gladiators to retreat. The life of Riley isn’t so great in the Southern California sunshine when you can’t beat Michigan or Minnesota, but they face an opponent that can’t beat the big boys and that will calm the Cardinal and Gold for this week.. Winner: USC
Florida at Tennessee (4 p.m., ESPN)
This is just the scenario the ‘ol ball coach would relish, a wounded opponent ripe for an ambush. Unfortately for the Chompers, Steve Spurrier is now just a ceremonial mouthpiece for the university and unless the Musketeers experience a totally collapse, things will settle down on Rocky Top. For a week anyway. Winner: Tennessee
Ohio State at Oregon (4:30 p.m., NBC)
College Game Day is in Eugene and and the fans are fired up but until the Waddlers can show the Prognosticator they can win THE game – remember all those years they couldn’t beat Stanford with a National Championship dangling in front of them and last year they lost not once but twice to Washington – then it’s another failed Duck dynasty. Winner: Ohio State
Ole Miss at LSU (4:30 p.m., ABC)
There is some serious talk on the bayou regarding bringing back Mike the Tiger to the sidelines, a move the Prognosticator fully supports. It was one of the factors that made Death Valley, well a death valley for opponents. The furry felines won’t need that this week as the Kiffin kittens will swallow plenty of furballs. Winner: LSU
Minnesota at UCLA (6 p.m., BTN)
If this keeps up, then the Prognosticator will take the unprecedented move to no longer include the Baby Bears in the picks. It has been done since the beginning to please the Westood alumni but now even the Prognosticator is getting BBS (Battered Bruin Syndrome). Winner: UCLA
