Tennessee’s Upset Loss To Georgia State Does Not Sit Well With Frustrated UT Fans

The fans sat in shock at Neyland Stadium. Frustration only begins to describe their mood.
Now they are saying “here we go again, another coaching search.”
That’s what will be happening now as second-year coach Jeremy Pruitt is suddenly at the head of the class for the 2019 college football coaches on the hot seat list. Losing to Georgia State – and getting whipped at the line of scrimmage in the process – will get a moving van to your house. (Tennessee fans once sent a moving van to a coach’s house after a loss.)
Things got off to a rocky start when a boat in the Volunteer Navy caught fire and sank at the dock across from the stadium. That should have been a sign. Later, the Vols themselves were taking on water. “Can’t believe what is happening!,” a fan texted PubClub.com. “Their defense is HORRIBLE!!! And they are getting out-coached…I thought I would never see the day.”
#2.) Clay Helton
“Hot Seat” Helton did not help his cause to stay at USC by having to hang on to beat Fresno State 31-23. The Trojans kept to the Helton script – come out on fire offensively and then fade, fade, fade. There were the typical signs of Helton’s coaching: penalties, turnovers and lackluster play. It sure does not help Helton’s fate that quarterback J.T. Daniels went down with a knee injury just before halftime.
#3.) Will Muschamp
Mr. No Offense lost to North Carolina. Alabama, Georgia and Clemson remain on the schedule. There is a bright spot tho: the Gamecocks also play Tennessee.
#4.) Willie Taggert
He would be right below Pruitt if FSU’s athletic department not so financially strapped at the moment. The Seminoles came out like a hurricane against Boise State but then the winds died down to a mere light breeze, getting only 68 yards of offense in the second half and blowing a 23-point lead. Coming off a 5-7 first season, this is not the way for Taggert to get a lot of job security in year two.
#5.) Mario Cristobol
Oregon should have beaten Auburn 35-6. At least. But Cristobal started to play not to lose and what happens when you play not to lose? You lose! You can’t do that against any teams, let alone Auburn which continually pulls rabbits out of its hat just when you think it’s defeated. The game also took Gus Malzahn off the hot seat. For now, anyway.
#6.) Chip Kelly
It may seem impossible to believe, but if UCLA is as bad in Kelly’s second year as it looked in losing to Cincinnati, then you’ll start hearing chants that the great experiment was a flop. The problem is that the Bruins don’t exactly have stellar resume of late when it comes to hiring coaches – in football and also basketball.
