A Buckeye Battle And A Southern California Cross-Town Rivalry

Rise and shine folks, it’s the early edition of college football as Saturday’s lone big game takes place at bottomless mimosas time across the country, and there are no twilight teasers.
A week before Rivalry Week, this is Sleepwalk Week for many teams and fans. Mostly there are snoozers, tho there is a potential battle in the Buckeye state and a cross-town rivalry in the Southern California sunshine to keep us awake and alert.
Now onto the games. All times Pacific because The Pigskin Prognosticator lives on the West Coast.
Penn State at Ohio State (9 a.m., FOX)
Clouds are hanging over Columbus but the Fields is wide open as the Nuts look to tame the once-roaring Lions and enhance their College Football Playoff position. The Mount Nittanys can tear into the hide of many opponents and will at times drive the hosts nuts, but they won’t be able to crack through the tough shell of the Buckeyes. Winner: Ohio State
Texas A&M at Georgia (12:30 p.m., CBS)
The Kirby Canines have their eyes on the SEC Championship but they had better pay attention to their current opponent or else they will get a shotgun shell right in their silver britches. The Cadets haven’t exactly been marching through the South like Sherman’s army, but they could start a march to the sea by setting fire to Athens-town. The Dawgs, tho, know how to find a fire hydrant. Winner: Georgia
UCLA at USC (12:30 p.m., ABC)
Fight On, the 8-clap, Song Girls and the gutty little Bruins. 66-19 followed by 13-9. This cross-town rivalry really is one where you really can throw out the records, for upsets are as big a part of the tradition as Traveler and the Sons of Westwood. This year is the battle of the two Trampolines, teams so up and down they are bouncing in different directions each week. Into this unpredictably comes this Pigskin Prognosticator’s prediction and no matter which team wins, the Song Girls will be dancing afterward with the band in front of the student section; if you’re at the game, stick around for it. Winner: USC
Arkansas at LSU (4 p.m., ESPN)
Normally, this would be a game that would have The Pigskin Prognosticator on high upset alert. The Bayou Boys have been Hog-tied in the past when they have been on the verge of national post-season success, and this year have yet to play that shaky game that all teams experience. However, the Little Piglets are so bad they are going to find themselves on the BBQ grill before even the jambalaya and gumbo. Winner: LSU
Oregon at Arizona State (4:30 p.m., ABC)
The Nike Knights are feeling just ducky about their College Football Playoff chances and the Herminators are going to be like matadors in a bull ring. They are going to wave a towel and step aside while the crowd cheers, more so for the party scene than for what their team is doing on the field. Winner: Oregon
Utah at Arizona (7 p.m., FS1)
In the evening snoozer, the Beehive State Indians try to excite the playoff committee but the only thing that will keep the voters from dozing off is a sudden – and unexpected – explosion from Khalil Tate, a dynamic playmaker who has mysteriously been rock-paper scissors under Smug Sumlin. You won’t lose any sleep over this one. Winner: Utah
