Popular Bama Hashtag Expands On ‘Roll Tide’
If you walk around Tuscaloosa and the University of Alabama on a football weekend, you’re going to see a few people wearing hats and stickers on their shirts with four letters of RMFT.
You may also see it on social media posts as a hashtag.
But what is it and what does it mean?
Well everyone knows that the Alabama Crimson Tide’s cheer is “Roll Tide.” And there’s a popular hashtag of #rtr, meaning “Roll Tide Roll.”
Well, RMFT takes that to a different level. In true proud and bold Southern style, RMFT stands for “Roll Mother Fuckin’ Tide.”
It was created by the owners of two of Tuscaloosa’s top college bars, Innisfree Pub downtown and Gallette’s on the University’s Strip, who are also business partners.
I was given a hat by Trip, the owner of Innisfree, when I was in town during Tennessee Hate Week to do the PubClub LIVE!, show, with Soul Cole and Jack Fleming Photography.
As I wore it, people stopped me on the Quad and in the bars not to ask what it meant – they all knew that – but to ask where they could get one. One place is Innisfree, and another is on the RMFT merchandise page, www.rmft.store.
Apparently, they have shirts, too. And why not, right?
So there you go, the true meaning of RMFT. I still have my hat, too.

Oh really? Haha. Well, RMFT!

Haha we facepainted RMFT in the 80’s. Copied well but not created by these bars. We just didn’t have hashtags or SM in the ‘old days’. Love the tradition though! #RMFT
