Top Four In College Football Playoff Rankings To Roll To Big Wins
By The Pigskin Prognosticator, PubClub.com College Football Blogger
Ryan Day is out for another game; Michael Penix, Jr., is (unfortunately) out for the season; Sarah Fuller is back kicking; Nick Saban is back coaching and Coach O is, too, much to the chagrin of LSU fans.
As college football rolls into December toward the finish line it is the hope of everyone involved that there are no COVID protocol trip wires along the way that would create more chaos than all of the top teams losing between now and the playoffs.
Now onto this week’s games. All times Pacific because the The Pigskin Prognosticator lives in San Diego.
Saturday, Dec. 5
Ohio State at Michigan State (9 a.m., ABC)
Sparty has been lacking a real spark this season but the only ignition this Saturday will come from the visiting Acorns. They are going to come roaring out of the garage as if they are headed to Michigan Speedway, tho they have often stalled in the second half. Even if they sputter to the finish line, they will be able to take the checkered flag.while the hosts again record a DNF. Winner: Ohio State
Texas A&M at Auburn (9 a.m., ABC)
After getting disassembled in T-Town the Gus Bus returns to the Plains to undergo repairs that the fans hope will keep the wheels from completely coming off and rolling over to Toomer’s Corner. The new Bo is a different player at home than on the road and that will cause some concern for the invading Aggies. Cadet QB Kellen Mond is all over the map but he should help his team find the end zone at least one more time than the Nix Mix. But beware of the power of the Plains. Winner: Texas A&M
Texas at Kansas State (9 a.m., FOX)
Texas may not be back but Tom Herman is – back on the hotseat, anyway. The head hearder just can’t steer the Steers in the right direction and you can just see the steam coming out of the cowboy hats of those hot-headed and high-dollar alumni. They face the Quiet Cats, who have not made a sound since knocking off Oklahoma the second game of the year, but they could make a lot more noise for Herman back on the Forth Acres if the Horns lose this one. Winner: Texas
Syracuse at Notre Dame (11:30 a.m., NBC)
The Domers get a chance to polish their gold hats against a team that’s been slipping on orange peels all season. When the only win you have is against Georgia Tech, that doesn’t exactly make for a juicy season. The Kelly Greens will squeeze early and often until they turn the Orangemen into pulp. Winner: Notre Dame
Florida at Tennessee (12:30 p.m, CBS)
Old Man Winter hit Knoxville like a sledgehammer this week but that’s nothing compared to the chilly feeling UT folks have now for Jeremy Pruitt. And the only thing getting warmer with the Swamp Creatures in town is the hot seat under Pruitt’s britches. If you think you see smoke on top of Old Smokey, wait until the UT Riflemen get chomped to bits by the mulching Mullenheads. Winner: Florida
Vanderbilt at Georgia (1 p.m., ESPN)
Postponed To Dec. 18 (COVID, injuries & opt-out issues)
For decades, the ‘Doors have been kicked down and around the SEC but last week they did some kicking of their own with the debut of Fuller, the first female to play in a Power 5 college football game. She’s back this week but her coach isn’t as Derek Mason went down with the sinking ship last Sunday. Don’t expect the Kirby Canines to show up with any buckets bail out the crew. Winner: Georgia
Oregon at Cal (4 p.m., ESPN)
The in-state rivals threw a wet towel on the Waddlers’ outside hopes of getting into the College Football Playoffs, but they get a chance to dry off against a waddling Bear trying to shake off three straight losses to open the season. The Cristobals need to learn how to put teams away and won’t be a national contender until the coach starts making that happen by playing to win, but that will not be a factor this week. Winner: Oregon
Clemson at Virginia Tech (4:30 p.m., ABC)
The good news for the (Hokie) Pokies is that there’s a new Va Tech beer called Fightin’ Hokies Lager. The bad news is that it’s not available until spring. The hosts are thirsty for a win, but they will be popping a different brand of kegs after getting a taste of the Lawrence of Clemson and the rest of the fierce Felines. Winner: Clemson
Alabama at LSU (5 p.m., CBS)
Fresh from stomping off some cat hairs that had been sticking to them since last year, the Pachyderms are the big elephants in this room when they take the field at Death Valley. They come in with the Mac Attack poised to pounce on the suddenly feeble Felines in a game that could be the most lopsided Bama win since Bear Bryant was on the sideline. For Tide fans this will be fun to watch. For those in the bayou, it will be 5 O’clock Somewhere that will have them drinking Hurricanes until they go insane. Winner: Alabama
UCLA at Arizona State (7:30 p.m., FS1)
The Trampolines kind of threw the Prognosticator onto the mat last week by playing well for the second week in a row. The squeaky springs are likely to return this week, tho this conclusion could be up way in the air since the last we saw of the Pitchforks was blowing a comfortable lead to USC a month ago. Since then, two games have been canceled. At the very least, the Pitchforks should be well rested. Winner: UCLA
Sunday, Dec. 6
Washington State at USC (4:30 p.m., FS1)
With Tommy Trojan back out of the stable after a COVID call, it’s back to the field against a foe that has hardly got its toes wet this season. The Felines have played just two games, losing to Oregon and beating Oregon State which, of course, just knocked off the Duckies. This should be a walk along the beach for Tommy but with Hot Seat Helton at the helm, any team can give Troy a game. Winner: USC
