So What If The Seven-Time Champion Had A Few Drinks. What Would YOU DO, I Ask

So Tom Brady had a few drinks.
And some tequila shots.
Gee, he’s human after all.
Lay OFF him people! And by people, I am including the media. Geez, tell me none of you has ever had a drink. HA! I began my career as a sportswriter and not only did we all drink we had our own bar in which to do it.
In fact, pounding down a few after making a deadline is one of the oldest traditions of being a journalist. It’s as old as the profession itself. Ask any seasoned New York City-based sportswriter or reporter about Runyon’s.
Yet these folks today act as it’s some sort of sin to have a drink. Just Google “Drunk Tom Brady” and you’ll get all kinds of sarcastic and critical headlines. Those doing the reporting act as if they, themselves, are above such shenanigans.
People, too, have criticized him on social media.
Well, here’s what I think about it.
I think the people who are knocking him are jealous. They are jealous of his life, jealous of his notoriety and success, jealous that that they were not a part of that boat parade.
Yeah, sure, tossing the Vince Lombard Trophy to a teammate on another boat was not smart. But each one of us has done something dumb while buzzed a few times in our lives with the excuse of “well, it seemed like a good idea at the time.”
Hey, Brady had just won his seventh – seventh! – Super Bowl. He won with a team he only joined that year. The city had a boat parade to celebrate. And he was celebrating.
What would you do, I ask?
Exactly.
So lay off Tom Brady. It’s okay if he celebrates and has a few drinks. It’s called enjoying life.
