By Taking Mac Jones, New England Patriots Get Future Tom Brady
The New England Patriots lost Tom Brady in 2020 yet picked up a younger version of the legendary quarterback in 2021.
And they didn’t have to wait until the sixth round to get him.
In fact, they got him in the first round, with the 15th pick. They drafted Alabama’s Mac Jones and thus became the biggest winners of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Jones is an identical player to Brady regarding the NFL Draft. Like Brady, he was analyzed by scouts, the front offices and analysts the same as Brady: too slow in the 40 time, not mobile in the pocket, questionable arm strength, blah, blah, blah.
Well like Brady, Jones wins. Brady bailed out Michigan time and time again his last year in college and Jones took Alabama to unprecedented offensive heights on the way to an undefeated season and National Championship. He was the quarterback of the greatest team in Alabama football history. And that’s saying a lot.
While other team passed on Jones – the 49ers gave up several picks to select a quarterback out of North Dakota State who played just one game last season – it was the Patriots and Bill Belichick who outsmarted everyone and become the biggest winner in the draft.
Not only that, but Belichick shrewdly chose his future Tom Brady without having to trade up to get him. He sat back patiently while other teams scrambled to make draft-day moves and still got his man.
He also got a winner. A champion. Just like Tom Brady.
Other 2021 NFL Draft Winners
The Jacksonville Jaguars not only got Trevor Lawrence but they used their second first-round pick on his Clemson running back teammate Travis Etienne. The Jags also also began working out Jacksonville native Tim Tebow at a tight end. The team needs all the good PR it can get to excite local fans and their moves did just that (until they take the field in the fall, at least).
The 2021 NFL Draft’s Biggest Losers
That’s an easy one, the Green Bay Packers. Not only did they probably lose Aaron Rodgers –who waited until Draft Day to announce he no longer wants to play for the team – but they picked Eric Stokes, a defensive back from Georgia who is regarded more as a track star than a first-round NFL Draft pick talent.
The second-biggest loser was the 49ers. They wasted a first-round pick on a project when they already have a quarterback.

Thank you Nancy! It is amazing the NFL talent Saban has recruited – and developed – at Alabama.

I think you nailed it in the first round draft! Mac will be an excellent fit with the Patriots. It’s the first time Belichick has used a first round pick for a quarterback. So Saban must’ve had some great things to say about him. Second year in a row Alabama had a quarterback picked in the first round. And two WRs in the top 10!
