No Broadway Sam Like Broadway Joe For 2020
Published Aug 26
New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold won’t be known as “Broadway Sam” this season. Unlike another famous signal-caller from the team’s past, he won’t be going out on Broadway or even in New York City this fall.
Instead, he will be “boring,” in his own words.
Arnold won’t be living like Joe Namath, who was as famous for being “Broadway Joe” as he was for being the Jets’ quarterback. His nightlife exploits became stuff of legend, and he was often seen with various beautiful girls under his arm (or both arms) and getting home about the time others in the Big Apple were just going to bed.
Darnold, tho, will be channeling his inner Namath for the good of the team. Last season, he contracted mononucleosis – the “kissing disease” – and missed three games. The Jets then collapsed on offense.
This prompted running back LeVon Bell to quip about Darold that “We just have to make sure he stays healthy. No bars.”
Of course, this year there is something more threatening to one’s health than mono and Darnold nor his coaches or teammates want him running around the Big Apple while the coronavirus lurks in public places.
So instead of acting like Namath off the field, Darnold hopes to be more like him on the field.
Darnold said he will be staying at this apartment, which is near the team’s training facility in Florham Park, N.J. That’s 38 miles from New York City.
And the lights of Broadway.
