Former Ole Miss Coach Also Manages To Save Us From O.J Simpson

Thanks, Hugh Freeze, for showing (albeit involuntarily) that you are a hypocrite.
Thanks, Hugh Freeze, for finally getting what you deserved, being fired, from Ole Miss.
And finally thanks, Hugh Freeze, for saving what was an incredibly boring summer of sports, 2017 version.
Things were so bad that the past two weeks, Sports Illustrated put high schoolers on the cover and filled the magazine with features such as a “Fashionable 50” of how athletes dress, a baseball umpire and a “what if” all-time NFL Draft.
Into this steps Freeze, the former Ole Miss coach who was on the hot seat for NCAA violations but then trumped that when phone record came to light that he was using the university’s phone to call up call girls.
This from a supposedly happily married man and father of three daughters who shouted and Tweeted out Bible verses the way some coaches spill out motivational phrases.
Freeze, in the incredible creative way sports figures and politicians have of coming up with excuses when they get caught doing something naughty and stupid, called the phone call in question “a misdial.”
That, of course, just added juice to the story.
And speaking of juice, this story was so captivating and the stupidity so mind boggling – after all, doing this in the first place and but also using the university’s phone! – Freeze even managed to to the seemingly impossible: knock OJ Simpson out of the sports headlines to a mere “oh by the way” story.”
Just before the Freeze story broke, Simpson had been granted parol by the Nevada prison board. Normally, this would have dominated the sports shows and pages to the point we would have just tuned out sports.
So thank you, Freeze, for also saving us from O.J. Simpson.
