5 Tips To Get You Through To The Final Four

Watching March Madness in a sports bar
Watching March Madness in a bar is a good singles scene.

It’s the start of March Madness, the maddening NCAA men’s basketball tournament to determine the sport’s national champion, and you don’t know your Duquesne from your Dayton (OH).

You didn’t even make it that far when filling out your bracket. Ready to automatically place North Carolina in the Final Four out of muscle memory, you can’t find it anywhere. (The Tar Heels had an uncharacteristically tough year, finishing below .500 and have missed the Big Dance.)

UCLA, which earlier this season lost to Hofstra and Cal State Fullerton – and North Carolina – are suddenly in the picture. Or is that picture just blurry, like the ones you’ve been taking of the hot bartender to try and encourage your friends to come and join you at the bar?

Duke, yeah that’s it. Can’t go wrong with Duke. But wait, a little research reveals the Blue Devils have not won the championship since the 2014-15 season and haven’t been back to the Final Four since (it has lost in the Elite Eight the past two years).

Gonzaga? Hard to tell when it plays in a conference as soft as your waitress’ skin. How about San Diego State as your Cinderella. Could get left holding the shoe.

The bottom line is that the whole thing is confusing, you’ll have as many ups and downs as a guy hitting on the available talent in a singles bar on a Saturday night and your bracket depends on college freshman hitting – or missing – game-winning three-pointers.

And you won’t win your pool anyway, so the best thing to do is to be in a bar so you can both cheer your wins and drown your sorrows from your losses, some of which occur within seconds of one another.

And so, PubClub.com presents your complete March Madness bracket busting bar game-watching guide.

1.) Don’t Get Drunk Too Early

There’s a lot of games to watch so don’t be guzzling your beers at the first tip. Instead, save that for when one of our Final Four teams gets down by 20 at the half.

2.) Make Friends With Others – Even If You’re For Different Teams

Maximize the fun over the frustration. The best thing about March Madness is being in a bar and sharing your joys as well as your frustrations with not only friends in your pool but with strangers who are in other pools.

3.) Don’t Tear Up Your Bracket Too Early

Just when you think you are done, then there’s another upset and you’re back in the game. But the printout of your bracket is ripped to shreds on the barroom floor and you can’t log into your on-line account because you’re too drunk to remember your password.

4.) Don’t Get Cocky And Start Buying Shots For Strangers

Your luck on the games can change as quickly as a turnover and a pair of threes. Do don’t get too carried away when one team is doing well and wind up with a bar tab that will have you sitting out the next two rounds to make up for it.

5.) Win Or Lose, Go Ahead And Booze

After all, that’s the PubClub cheer, and you will enjoy the games and your time in the bar much better with this winning attitude.
