Why Restaurants’ Instagram Food Photos Can Be Deceiving

When Great-Looking Tacos Give Way To A Great Burger

This is the real deal, the fantastic burger at Ercoles in Manhattan Beach, CA.

By Kevin Wilkerson, PubClub.com Blogger

I was lured – deceived as it turns out – to a restaurant/bar in Manhattan Beach, CA, by one of its photos on Instagram.

The photo showed three delicious-looking tacos and was accompanied by text that said “3 tacos for $5 and $5 margaritas all day.”

As it was lunchtime, a friend and I headed over there to check it out and, quite possibly, me to write a PubClub.com review of it.

But before sitting down to order I wanted to know if those were full-sized tacos or the tiny “street tacos” that so many (too many, if you ask me) bars and restaurants are now serving.

As it turns out, the waitress told me they were indeed the street tacos. Dang! I was hungry and those little things would not satisfy my needs.

The so-called “street tacos” – named after what is served from carts on the street and beach in Baja, Mexico – are so small it takes five or more to get filled up on them. Three for $5 is not a good deal.

Plus, there’s no side dishes so you order more at $2 each and suddenly that $5 price is nearly doubled.

The Instagram photo certainly did its job – it got me to the place. It just didn’t get me into the place, because I was smart enough to ask about the item before ordering it.

And you should do the same by knowing that when you see a post, what you see many not exactly be what you get.

So my friend and I went to where we knew we could get a hearty lunch – the burgers at Ercoles, the best burgers in L.A.
