Fun Party Music Makes This One Of The City’s Liveliest Nightlife Spots

Well that didn’t take long.
Midway into my first night in this Australian river city, I had identified my favorite bar in Brisbane.
It’s a small, sweaty, casual, cut-loose of a place called Kalibar. It’s one of dozens of bars in the happening part of town called The Valley.
My local tour guide – or “mate” here in Oz – took me there and it was “game on” the minute we walked through the door.
Kalibar has a DJ that plays great classic party music, the kind that makes you thrust a fist in the air, say “Oh, YEAH!!!,” and race onto the dance floor. It ranges from the “Rocky Horror Picture Show’s” Time Warp to Abba’s Dancing Queen (I was singing the latter in my head all the next morning!).

The crowd is a mix between 20-somethings and 30- and even 40-somethings. Here it doesn’t matter because the music propels you onto the dance floor with all of them.
It’s almost impossible to leave because suddenly the DJ will play another fun party song and suddenly you find yourself at the bar ordering another beer or back on the dance floor. And since the bars here don’t close until 5 a.m., that could be trouble.
This, folks, is my kind of place!
My mate took me to two other places in The Valley. One is a “pub” (more on that in a second) called The Elephant and the other is a cool bar with a live jazz band called Press Club.
The Elephant is classified as a pub in Aussie lingo because it’s in a hotel and has more than one service area. The front part is more of what I consider to be a pub, a classic wooden bar ideal for conversations and pints. But there’s more to The Elephant; just past this bar there is a band and beyond that is a large outdoor patio with another service area that’s like a Las Vegas lounge.
So folks, if you want to party at night in Brisbane, head to The Valley. And once there, be sure and go to Kaliber. It’s of a high caliber of fun.
Cheers!
