‘Sol Sundays’ Are Vegas Without The Pools At Bar’s Upstairs Deck
If you didn’t know better, you might think for a second you were transplanted to Rehab or some other rocking pool party in Las Vegas.
There’s people in bikinis and swim trunks (or shorts and sandals), the place is packed, drinks are flowing and a DJ is pumping house music.
Except there’s no pool.
There is an ocean however, although it’s a block away, not actually on site.
It’s the Berry Bly and Max Entertainment Group’s “Sol Sundays” and it’s back for the summer of fun 2012. The location is Hermosa Beach, CA and the place that’s rocking is the Ocean Bar, the indoor/outdoor two-level restaurant and lounge that is transformed into, well, a Vegas pool party without the pool.
When it debuted in 2011, it was instantly packed, and brought the Sunday afternoon party back to the Beach Cities. It was the modern version of Chiller’s (for those party veterans who remember the rockin’ days at the former Redondo Beach deck) but with a better crowd than Chiller’s brought in its end. Sol Sundays are comprised mostly South Bay locals.
The first level bar is the ear-thumping section, while conversations are more easily carried out on the upper patio (there’s also a bar there, so getting mixed drinks or cold beer is easy). This is also where you reserve tables and couches, serviced by the typically hot waitresses. Again, just like Vegas!
Sol Sundays start May 20 and run up until Labor Day weekend, from 2-9 p.m. $10. Call for the guestlist or table reservations: (310) 356-4927.
There is also a Sunday afternoon beach-themed party at Game Changers on Hermosa Ave. And since you can’t drink on the beaches in California, this combines the cocktails and sand that we all crave in the South Bay.
